La Galerie d’art Vendôme est heureuse d’accueillir l’artiste américain David Syre pour sa première exposition en Europe : « Cartes de l’âme : Un artiste en chemin ». L’artiste a choisi la France car il y a confirmé son projet de vie artistique. La ville de Nice représente ainsi « le premier pas d’un nouveau chemin » pour les œuvres colorées, joyeuses et pleines de symboles de David Syre, qui dévoilera plus tard dans l’année ses œuvres aux Etats-Unis puis en Argentine.
L’exposition « Cartes de l’âme : un artiste en chemin » est consacrée à son parcours de vie et son cheminement spirituel. La série de 23 œuvres exposée à la Galerie Vendôme reflète les différentes étapes de sa vie. A travers ses peintures, dessins et sa sculpture, David Syre nous ouvre les lieux marquants de la carte de son existence. Ces œuvres d’art ont été réalisées entre 2013 et 2018.
Le public découvrira l’œuvre phare de David Syre, « Ma vie ». Il lui aura fallu deux mois pour réaliser cette sculpture directement inspirée par son chemin de vie. Plusieurs pièces la composent, chacune d’entre elles représentant une période de la vie de l’artiste. Elle a été pensée pour être exposée à Nice.

David Syre est un être profond, doté d’une énergie, d’un appétit d’apprendre et de vivre extraordinaires. C’est cette nature qui l’a entrainé sur des voyages autour du globe et sur une voie spirituelle qu’il poursuit en parallèle de sa pratique artistique. Il puise son inspiration au cœur de la Terre mère nourricière, de l’origine des hommes, avant de s’élever vers la lumière.
Son œuvre est à l’image de sa trajectoire et de l’esprit qui est le sien. Sorties tout droit de son subconscient, des images archétypales et primordiales nous emportent dans l’univers du silence, de ce qui ne peut être dit.
Par la couleur et par l’incorporation de symboles de toutes les religions, par des cercles, des spirales, par la lettre C, par les chiffres…
David s’exprime. Tout a du sens pour lui. Tout est mathématique. Mais au lieu de formules complexes et obscures c’est je jeu, la joie qui prend le dessus. « Cartes de l’âme : un artiste en chemin » livre des œuvres vivantes et légères.
Au cours de l’année 2018, David Syre exposera dans deux autres pays, aux Etats-Unis et en Argentine. Chacune de ces destinations possède une signification particulière avec cependant un dénominateur commun : le concept de « la route » parcourue par l’artiste. Ainsi, les thèmes des expositions de Nice, de Santa-Fe et de Buenos Aires seront différents. A Nice (mai), le voile se lève sur le parcours de vie de David Syre, à Santa-Fe (septembre), on explore les origines et le développement de l’humanité dans le temps et à Buenos Aires (novembre), les œuvres seront dédiées à des configurations de féminité et de masculinité en ligne avec la culture Ona. Chaque destination conduira à « The Peace Trail », le grand projet de l’artiste en Terre de Feu, en Argentine.

David Syre réside à Bellingham, Washington – USA Né en 1940 David, artiste autodidacte, grandit sur les berges de la rivière Nooksack, auprès de ses parents norvégiens, agriculteurs. Sa vie se déroule sous le signe d’une extraordinaire résilience qui marque tout son parcours : après avoir surmonté une poliomyélite à l’âge de 4 ans, il excelle dans le marathon puis dans le commerce. Bien que doué depuis l’enfance, l’art n’était pas une option de carrière pour lui. Ce n’est que tardivement que David retrouve sa passion créatrice et renoue avec son rêve d’enfant de devenir peintre. Une rencontre, il y a bien des années, en France, va redonner sens à cette pratique artistique retrouvée, en lui assurant que c’est la voie qu’il doit suivre. Voie, qui aujourd’hui, le mène à Nice. David Syre travaille dans un studio qui appartient à la ferme familiale séculaire, face aux montagnes Cascade canadiennes. Partout où il se rend, il emporte ses feutres et ses crayons. C’est un créateur prolifique, intarissable, d’une créativité et d’une production sans bornes. La spiritualité trône au centre de sa vie et de sa trajectoire artistique. Spiritualité qui lui fait suivre un chemin curieux, bien à lui. L’amour, l’indulgence, la compassion et l’espoir sont les principes qui orientent sa vie. David travaille en ce moment sur un projet artistique : un Chemin de Paix reliant l’océan Atlantique et Pacifique au sud de la Terre de Feu, en Argentine. The Vendôme Art Gallery is pleased to welcome the American artist David Syre for his first exhibition in Europe: “Cards of the soul: An artist on the way”. The artist chose France, and most importantly French Riviera, because it is where he confirmed his project of an artistic life. The city of Nice represents “the first step of a new path” for the colorful, joyous and full of symbols of David Syre, who will then unveil his works in the United States and Argentina.
The exhibition “Maps of the Soul: An Artist on the Way” is dedicated to travel. The series of 23 works exhibited at the Gallery Vendôme reflects the different stages of his life. Through the paintings, drawings and sculpture, it is the map of David Syre’s existence that can be read. These works of art have been created between 2013 and 2018.
The public will discover David Syre’s highlight, “My life”. It took him two months to make this sculpture. It was directly inspired by his path. Several pieces compose it, each echoing a period of his life. The sculpture was thought to be exposed in Nice.

David Syre is a deep being, endowed with an energy, an appetite to learn and live extraordinary. It is this nature that has led him on trips around the globe and on a spiritual path that he pursues in parallel with his artistic practice. He draws his inspiration from the heart of Mother Mother Earth, from the origin of men, before rising to the light.
His work is in the image of his trajectory and the spirit that is his. Straight out of his subconscious, archetypal and primordial images take us into the world of silence, of what cannot be said.

The artistic work of David Syre
David Syre is a wonderful being with incredible depth and enormous energy, a desire to learn and enthusiasm for life. These attributes have taken him on journeys around the world and onto a reflective spiritual path, one he follows alongside his art practice: art rooted in Mother Earth, in the core, and the origin of mankind, art that ascends towards enlightenment. David creates art that reflects his life’s journey and the spirit of his soul. Archetypal and primordial images emerging from the artist’s subconscious challenge the viewer to search for the unexpressed, the silenced. David expresses himself using color and incorporating symbols from all religions, circles, spirals, the letter C, numbers. For him, everything has meaning, and everything is mathematical. Yet, instead of producing entangled, complex equations, he plays, he has fun; he gives lively and joyful creations. David’s person is like his art: full of light and color. His message and motto, “Peace, Love, Compassion, Forgiveness,” are embodied in his projects.
During the year 2018, David Syre will exhibit in two other countries, the United States and Argentina. Each of these destinations has a special meaning, but with a common denominator: the concept of “the road” traveled by the artist. Thus, the themes of the exhibitions of Nice, Santa Fe and Buenos Aires will be different. In Nice (May), the veil rises on the path of life of David Syre, Santa Fe (September), we explore the origins and development of humanity in time and Buenos Aires (November), the works will be dedicated to configurations of femininity and masculinity in line with Ona culture. Each destination will lead to “The Peace Trail”, the great project of the artist in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
Biography of David Syre
Self-taught artist, David Syre grew up along the Nooksack River. The son of Norwegian agricultural parents, he exhibited a remarkable resilience that would be emblematic of his life— overcoming polio at age four, going on to compete in marathons as an adult and building a successful business. Although a talented child artist, art was deemed an unacceptable career path. Later in life, David rediscovered his creative passion fulfilling his childhood dream of painting. While in France, a chance meeting several years ago boosted David’s confidence in his renewed artistic practice. Someone admired his artwork and assured the inevitable road to follow, which today, takes him to Nice. Syre paints at his studio on the site of his family’s 100-year- old farm in view of the Canadian Cascade Mountains. At the same time, he carries his pencils and crayons wherever he goes. He is prolific, inexhaustible; his creativity and production are boundless. Spirituality is at the core of Syre’s artistic and life journey. A self-taught spiritual soul, he followed an independent curious path. He embraces love, forgiveness, compassion and hope as universal guiding principles.
