Hotel Review: Royal Mougins Golf Resort

If you are ever looking for a hotel close to Cannes Croisette or Nice airport, spacious rooms, outside lunches and dinners as well as a golf club, then Royal Mougins Golf Resort could match your needs.

Even though you should make sure you got the right address before driving there (Google does not provide the good one), Royal Mougins offers many facilities including a large golf club, a spa and a pool. I love the fact that non-members can come play to the the golf club for the day, weekend or longer vacations. Royal Mougins also invites golf players to some competitions they organize along the year. The weekend I was there, a member had organized a competition with his friends, what a nice idea! Now let me tell you about the hotel and its facilities.

The rooms:

With only 29 rooms the hotel remains quite confidential. The rooms look more like high-end apartments due to the fact that they are quarterly shared all year long. But when they are not occupied, guests can be hosted. The Premium suites are spacious and offer the view on the golf park from a big terrace which has 2 sun beds from which you can admire the sunset. With a large bathtub and showerkitchenette and living room area with couches to watch the TV or comfortably read a book, the suite can also cater to family trips. Even though there were some flies flying around during the dinner, I did not expect to find them in my bedroom when coming back. Seeing as the surroundings of the hotel Royal Mougins are mostly green spaces, unfortunately, some flying and non-flying creatures, nothing wild or dangerous though, decided to visit my room. Nicely enough, the hotel personal proposed me to change room which I kindly accepted. Nevertheless, I was apparently the first person to whom it happened. Damn, I was not lucky!

The Golf Club:

The Royal Mougins Golf Club is a course of exceptional quality. Designed by world-famous American architect, the late Robert von Hagge, the par 71, 18-hole course extends for 6,004 m through a lush, wooded vale.

I was lucky enough to be booked a private class at the practice with Prime Golf Academy Director Stephane Damiano, a renowned golf coach with more than 20 years of coaching experience at the highest level and the ex-coach of Victor Dubuisson, N 22d world professional player and the best French payer ever. Very nice, in just one hour, he managed to give me great advices in order for me to hit the golf ball just how it should be.

Prime Golf Academy at Royal Mougins offers high quality and unique golf packages for all level and age players. The academy also proposes detailed assessments of a player’s game and TPI trainings in its state of the art Golf Performance Studio with the very latest golf technologies.

The restaurant:

All summer long, “La Terrasse du 18″ offers a panoramic terrace for lunches and dinners overlooking the greens. The view over the course enhances the peaceful nature of this location, where you can relax and restore a sense of wellbeing. All evening long Chef Servé Vromen and his team cook outside, in front of the guests and openly discuss with the guests. From the dining menu, I really liked the Tomatoes Gaspacho because it featured full vegetables. The sea bream was pretty tasty as it was cooked on the grill and as for the dessert, I could not resist the Royale Demoiselle Blanche.

The day after at lunch time, I discovered Chef Philippe Artaud’s lovely Red Fruits Soup with Mint, Yogurt Ice Cream. It was so beautiful I did not want to eat it but when I did, it was so good!

Hotel Activities:

The hotel has a lovely serene pool area and a peaceful spa including a Pilate and fitness room, which are perfect for after golf sessions.

Royal Mougins Golf Resort is a the place to stay if you are looking to get away from city life, play golf, relax and just be surrounded by nature.
